Are you looking for the perfect gift for your dad this Father’s Day? Look no further than a loyal, friendly dog! Dogs and dads have so many things in common with each other. From their goofy antics to their protective behavior, it’s no wonder dogs have been considered “man’s best friend” for centuries. It doesn’t matter what type of personality or personality your dad has—chances are there’s a lucky dog that’s ready to be his fur-ever friend!

Here are 10 amazing dog breeds for every dad this Father’s Day.

For dads who are always active:

Golden Retriever

If your dad is looking for a workout buddy or a friend to go on hikes with, the Golden Retriever is their furry bestie! Golden Retrievers are sporting dogs, which means they’re playful, people-oriented, and highly energetic. These dogs love being around humans, especially young children. Along with long walks around the block, Golden Retrievers enjoy games and other activities that test their endurance. Whether it’s running or playing fetch for hours, Golden Retrievers are the kind of dog that never seems to get tired. Gentle, protective, and patient, this breed shares the most dad-like traits out of all the dogs on this list!

German Shepherd

Despite their quiet, serious demeanor, German Shepherds are a highly active breed with a powerful, athletic build. With their strong gait and robust body structure, German Shepherds are always ready to join their owners on any adventure. And like many dads, this breed is well-known for its confident, no-nonsense look that exhibits assertiveness. They also possess strong guarding instincts, which come from their past as sheepherders. Along with their protective nature, German Shepherds are fiercely loyal, confident, and intelligent!

Australian Shepherd

Originally a herding dog, the Australian Shepherd is a loyal dog with one special trait: stamina. No other dog can match the Australian Shepherd in energy. Running. Agility. Games. This breed enjoys a fun time with their loved ones. Don’t be fooled by the fluffy, adorable appearance of the Aussie Shepherd. Your dad can always count on this dog’s liveliness and muscular body to brighten up any activity they do together. Attentive and free-spirited, the Australian Shepherd is the ideal companion for any active dad!

Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever has the perfect combination of athletic traits that make them great companions for active dads. Labs are special dogs because they rarely ever take themselves too seriously. They’re never aggressive and enjoy the company of other people. Like Golden Retrievers, Labs have a gentle soul that makes it easy for owners to introduce them to others. Your dad won’t have to worry about their Labrador acting aloof or wary around strangers. Due to their laid-back personality, they’re also obedient and easy to train.

For dads who are foodies at heart:

Dachshund

Dachshunds are small but they have a ravenous appetite! These dogs never seem to have enough of a bite, and enjoy munching on any yummy treat their owners give them. While your dad won’t be able to share his dinner with his Dachshund buddy, he can still give them delicious alternatives that won’t upset their tummies. Charming, outgoing, and a little mischievous, Dachshund may just be that foodie fur-baby your dad is waiting to meet!

Beagle

A hound dog by nature, the Beagle has an incredible sense of smell. In fact, according to MentalFloss, the Beagle can pick up over 50 different scents through the powerful receptors in its nose. Their talents were used by hunters to track prey. Today, as pets, Beagles use their sense of smell to walk around the dinner table and patiently wait for their kind owners to drop some leftovers (don’t do it!). A lover of food, Beagles will do whatever it takes to get their mouths munching on food, including raiding your trash bags. This breed is also very friendly and spirited, making them great friends for dad!

Pug

Pugs are beloved in the dog-loving community. Sturdy and spunky, the Pug breed has won the hearts of many owners over the years. This little dog also loves to eat! At any opportunity, they will try their hardest to gain dad’s affection just for a little nibble on his pizza crust. Of course, although the Pug’s eating habits may be cute, it’s important to take the Pug out on walks so that their sturdy bodies don’t become overweight. Their little faces may look grouchy at the idea but trust us. Pugs love spending time outside with dad and family!

For dads who work all day:

French Bulldog

Is there any dog in the world that’s more easy-going than the French Bulldog? We don’t think so. Frenchies are one of the most low-maintenance dogs in existence. While your dad is hard at work, this little dog is more than happy to relax and take a long snooze on the couch. Patient and even-tempered, the French Bulldog isn’t the type of dog to act out in tantrums. Frenchies don’t bark very often and although they like to play, they do not require lots of exercises.

Boston Terrier

Intelligent and charming, the Boston Terrier is a pooch that doesn’t mind being left alone for long periods of time. Boston Terriers are an incredibly well-mannered breed, earning them the title “The American Gentleman”. They do not have a high barking frequency as other dogs on this list. They’re always eager to please their owners and if trained properly, they can be friends with anyone they meet. Boston Terriers don’t need lots of exercises regularly either; short walks every day are enough.

Miniature Schnauzer

Although the smallest of the three Schnauzer breeds, the Miniature Schnauzer has patience and happiness that’s larger than them. You may notice that Mini Schnauzers are the most vocal and extroverted pooches but they do not mind being alone all day. They will wait patiently for dad and greet him with kisses when he comes home. If there’s one thing the Mini Schnauzer possesses, it’s a deep affection for their loved ones. Once a Mini Schnauzer has bonded with its owner, they’ll always be loyal to them.

Most dogs make great pets for dads. Dogs share that intrinsic need to protect and love the people around them, just like dads. You may find that even small dogs like Yorkies are an excellent fit for your dad. What’s important is taking time to research the right breed and making sure your dad is ready for a dog. We hope this list helped you find the perfect little friend for your dad! Happy Father’s Day from Petland!
